The Trout - watch a clip from a film documenting a legendary performance of Schubert's chamber work

On 30 August 1969, five young musicians came together to play Schubert's Trout Quintet in the new Queen Elizabeth Hall in London. Their names: Daniel Barenboim (piano), Itzhak Perlman (violin), Pinchas Zukerman (viola), Jacqueline du Pré (cello) and Zubin Mehta (double bass).

Daniel Barenboim designs 'radical' new piano

Barenboim was inspired to experiment with the design after playing Franz Liszt's restored grand piano during a trip to Siena, Italy in September 2011. "The warmth and tonal characteristics of the traditional straight-strung instruments is so different from the homogenous tone produced by the modern piano across its entire range," he said.
