Are orchestras too stuffy?

But this is a difficult period for orchestras which need to innovate at time when their budgets are falling. A survey by the Association of British Orchestras found that in 2012-13, orchestras’ finances were down by 14% in real terms due to cuts in public funding. They also have an image problem and are often seen as highbrow and elitist. Even the venues they play in can be viewed as stuffy and intimidating.
